Summer date for Donington’s triple header WorldSBK round in 2019

Tuesday, November 13 2018

The Motul FIM Superbike World Championship will return to Donington Park in 2019, on a new summer date of 5-7 July, for the series' only UK round.

The new date isn't the only major change for a championship that will have a fresh look next year. The race weekend schedule will be expanded to include three races for the premier category, with the first race taking place on the Saturday, while Sunday's action will be boosted with a 'sprint' race on the morning before the third race in the afternoon, ensuring a return to two WorldSBK races on the main race day.

Several of the teams will be much stronger in 2019 too, with BMW and Honda strengthening their efforts with full works assaults to take on the dominant Kawasaki operation, while Ducati will introduce a new bike too.

There's much change on the rider front as well, with Bennetts British Superbike Champion and Donington local Leon Haslam returning to the world scene as teammate to reigning four-time champion Jonathan Rea. Rea's former teammate, Tom Sykes, has moved to the BMW squad, while British Superbike favourite Ryuichi Kiyonari is a surprise addition at Honda. MotoGP ace Alvaro Bautista also joins the series, with the Spaniard signing with Ducati alongside Chaz Davies.

The usual busy support race programme will continue with the Supersport World Championship headlining an international roster of championships that will be joined by leading national categories. Off track thrills will again come from the popular Paddock Show and large family entertainment areas that have become a staple attraction of the UK round.
