British F3's Billy Monger stars in BBC documentary

Monday, November 19 2018

BRDC British F3 driver Billy Monger is the subject of a new BBC documentary, focusing on the British driver's return to action in the MSV-operated series this year.

Monger lost both lower legs in a British F4 accident at Donington Park in 2017, and his recuperation and family life are documented in the one-hour programme, titled 'Driven, the Billy Monger Story', which is available to view on BBC Three now, and will be broadcast on BBC Two tonight (Monday) at 9pm.

Billy's adaptation to prosthetic legs, interviews with his family, and his quest to overturn the FIA ruling on disabled drivers competing in single-seaters are all documented, before Billy is shown driving a single-seater for the first time since his accident, with a test in the BRDC British F3 car at MSV's Bedford Autodrome, and a meeting with his idol, Lewis Hamilton.

The programme concludes with Monger's dream comeback to racing at Oulton Park, with hitherto unseen footage of his podium return.

Monger eventually finished fifth overall in BRDC British F3 this year, claiming a total of four podiums, as well as taking two pole positions on his first racing return to Donington Park.
