BTCC's Jack Goff ready to 'come out fighting' at Brands Hatch

Saturday, March 31 2018

Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship race winner Jack Goff is brimming with confidence for the new season, which gets underway at Brands Hatch next weekend (7/8 April).

A move to Eurotech last season revitalised Jack's BTCC career, and he won a race on his way to sixth place overall in the championship, narrowly losing out to Tom Ingram in the Independents' class.

"I've said it a few times; if the season started at Snetterton last year it might have been a different story," Jack said. "We were one of the highest points scorers in the second half of the year. We go into this season with high hopes to have a nice solid start to the season. The car looks really smart with the Wix livery, so if it goes as well as it looks we should be OK."

The Eurotech squad has also expanded to three cars for 2018, with Matt Simpson joining Brett Smith and Jack, who feels that this can only help. "We'll all push each other on; that's the most important thing," he said. "Working together we get on well off track, and we need to turn that into some good results for the team."

Jack will also be one of seven Honda Civic Type Rs on the grid, with the factory team debuting the current generation model and BTC Norlin running the ex-works cars.

"Lots of different Hondas on the grid in total now, so we've got to make sure we're at the top come the end of the year," Jack said. "We were second overall last year out of the Hondas; Shedden beat us by a few points, but there's another 25 cars out there as well, so we need to make sure we can go out and beat everybody."

Chief amongst the team's targets is the Independents' crown having come so close last time. "The Independents' championship is almost as hard as the overall championship," Jack admitted. "We came second in that last year, there's one more step to go in that championship, but we'll see what happens. We want to win the overall championship, so if we win that we should be OK in the Independents as well.

"Qualifying last year was our strong point; we had three poles and two seconds out of ten weekends. We know that our qualifying speed is good, we just need to turn that into good results now, so that's our focus, and come out fighting at Brands Hatch."
