Major national events headline Oulton Park 2018 events calendar

Wednesday, February 21 2018

Oulton Park circuit has announced its 2018 calendar, which includes major championships, classic car events and family-friendly festivals amongst a busy line-up of high-octane entertainment almost every weekend from March until November. Tickets for most events are now on sale from £12, with free admission to under-13s.

Major championships head to Cheshire

Britain's biggest national racing championships will head to Oulton Park this season, with the new-look Bennetts British Superbike Championship making two visits. Reigning champion Shane 'Shakey' Byrne will be aiming for his seventh title, and third in a row, but will face tough opposition from rivals Leon Haslam and Josh Brookes, whilst Stockport's Christian Iddon will be aiming to get amongst the trio, having finished just behind the top six title fighters last year. The championship returns to Cheshire for a Bank Holiday weekend visit on 5-7 May, followed by the Showdown opener on 14-16 September, when the six title contenders will begin their scrap for the championship.

The Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship features one of the most exciting grids in years, with Northwich's Speedworks setting sights on the title after winning the independents' trophies last season with Tom Ingram. Blackburn's Ciceley Motorsport has expanded to two cars, with Adam Morgan joined by rookie Tom Oliphant, who was brought up just a stone's throw from Oulton Park. They'll all be setting sights on deposing champion Ashley Sutton when the series visits Cheshire, traditionally the best-attended rounds, on 9/10 June.

The major events season gets underway with the popular British GT and Formula 3 Championship Easter event on 31 March/2 April. A huge grid of supercars will race twice on Easter Monday, headed by Crewe's own Bentley, which won last year's title in the hands of Rick Parfitt Jr and Chester's Seb Morris. Both days will include rounds of the BRDC British F3 Championship, featuring a field of Grand Prix hopefuls.

Themed festivals and family-friendly events

Oulton Park's signature Historic Gold Cup heads a list of themed events, and the annual August Bank Holiday (25-27) fixture is a nostalgic treat with as much to see and do off the track as there is on the famous tarmac. Over five decades of post-war motorsport will be recalled during a glorious summer weekend.

An earlier time will be brought back to life on Saturday 19 May, which is when the Vintage Motorsport Festival returns to Cheshire. Featuring cars from the early days of motoring, a more pioneering and heroic spirit is recalled at this event, complete with off-track entertainment from a gentler age that includes cream teas and jazz music to set the mood.

The popular Family Fun Day event on Sunday 27 May travels even further back in time, with medieval-themed attractions as well as more modern activities that will include driving experiences and rides. Displays, artisan trade stands, live music and children's entertainment completes a fun line-up for all generations.

Fans of Volkswagen campers will love VW Budburg on 12-13 May, a camp-over that includes racing on the track on the Saturday, followed by a chilled-out Sunday with car displays and parades. There's live music throughout the weekend, too. Mini lovers get their own Mini Festival on Saturday 21 July, with racing dedicated to both the original and BMW recreation of the diminutive classic, and a host of off-track fun.

There's fast car fun at Tunerfest North on Saturday 28 July, with track action headlined by Time Attack, a high-speed competition for the fastest lap of the circuit, plus public track time and performance-oriented demonstrations. Displays, stands, competitions and more can be found off-track.

The season ends with the increasingly-popular Neil Howard Stage Rally and Fireworks Display on Saturday 3 November. Throughout the day there will be sideways thrills on the rally stages, plus off-track entertainment and a 'big bang' fireworks display to end the season in style.

In addition to these highlights, there's a wealth of club racing action throughout the season. Each event offers great value for money with admission from just £12, and under-13s go free to all of the year's fixtures.
