Shedden looking forward to 'fantastic atmosphere' at Brands

Tuesday, September 26 2017

Gordon Shedden is expecting to give up his Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship title at Brands Hatch this weekend (30 September -1 October), but is still looking forward to a strong end to the year at the Kent circuit.

Only a miracle can prevent Shedden from giving up the BTCC title after a 720-day reign, and whilst the series is notoriously unpredictable, the Scotsman isn't expecting an upset this weekend.

"My main aim for Brands Hatch will be to finish the season on a high," Gordon said. "I'll certainly be giving it a go! I want to bring some silverware home, and obviously third place in the championship is still up for grabs and is very important to me."

Just one point separates Shedden from fourth-placed Tom Ingram, and Rob Collard isn't far behind the pair.

"I've finished inside the top three in the BTCC Drivers' standings every year since 2010, so I want to keep that run going," Gordon said. "It's a three-way fight that closed up considerably at Silverstone and there will clearly be some very quick cars in the mix, but I'm confident that the Civic Type R will perform well around Brands GP."

Gordon won all of his BTCC championships on the Brands Hatch Grand Prix layout, and won the last race of the year at the track in 2013 and 14, so is confident of retaining the place.

"I've obviously got good memories of the track, having won the title there three times," Gordon said. "There's always a fantastic atmosphere there to end the season and it's the kind of circuit that should play to our strengths, so we need to make sure we exploit that."

Tickets for the BTCC at Brands Hatch on 30 September-1 October are available in advance from £27 with free entry for under-13s. For more information call 0843 453 9000 or click   here.
