Local hero 'Shakey' leads the pack after final MCE BSB practice

Saturday, October 14 2017

Local hero Shane 'Shakey' Byrne edged close to the fastest ever lap of Brands Hatch to top the final MCE British Superbike Championship free practice session ahead of this afternoon's Datatag Qualifying and opening race of the triple-header decider.

James Ellison was pushing at the top of the times in the closing moments of the session but Byrne was on the attack and he stormed into the lead and then went on to better his time to hold his position at the top.

Ellison held second for the McAMS Yamaha team, narrowly ahead of John Hopkins on the Moto Rapido Ducati, with title contender Josh Brookes holding fourth position, just 0.409s adrift off the pace-setting time of Byrne.

Christian Iddon was fifth fastest for Tyco BMW ahead of Jason O'Halloran and Peter Hickman. Bradley Ray climbed to eighth in the final minutes of the session with Michael Laverty and Sylvain Guintoli completing the top ten.

Leon Haslam dropped to eleventh in the closing moments of the session ahead of this afternoon's opening race.
