Huge 29-truck entry for this weekend's Brands Hatch event

Wednesday, March 22 2017

A gigantic entry of 29 racing behemoths will contest this weekend's (25/26 March) British Truck Racing Championship (BTRC) rounds at Brands Hatch, headlining a weekend of family entertainment on and off the track.

The BTRC 2017 season gets underway on the Indy circuit with eight rounds of brutal racing scheduled for the weekend. The races will be split into two classes, and with reverse-grids, spectators can expect plenty of excitement and drama throughout the field.

The top Class A trucks will contest the main title, and leading the way will by reigning champion Ryan Smith, who is expected to debut a new MAN truck, which has come from the FIA European Truck Racing Championship. His main opponents will be ten-time champion Stuart Oliver, in the Volvo that has challenged for the last two titles, and four-time champion Mat Summerfield, who is due to be running upgraded MAN machinery.

The 13-truck Class A entry also includes 2011 champion David Jenkins, who is renowned for his exuberant driving style, regulars Richard Collett, Luke Taylor and Simon Reid, plus Michael Oliver, son of multiple champion Stuart. The entry also features a visit from Dutchman Frans Smith, who starred in Class B at last year's opening rounds.

Class B will be hotly contested between 16 rigs, including the return of double class champion Steven Powell, who switches to Sisu machinery and will be joined by his brother John in a Ford Cargo. There's a third family entry in the field, with the return of husband-and-wife truckers Wayne and Joanne Eason. All four class contenders hail from Kent, and this contingent also includes Simon Cole from Dartford, Andrew Fulcher from Maidstone and Tony Smith from Gravesend.

Also disputing Class B honours will be reigning category champion Adam Bint, 2015 class runner-up Luke Garrett, truck racing veteran Paul McCumisky and Finland's Mika Makinen, who impressed here last November.

There's also a busy programme of supporting races, with equally exciting action from a variety of categories including the pocket-rocket Legends Cars, NASCAR-style Pickup Trucks, plus Kumho BMW Championship, the Scrapco/Avon Intermarque Championship and BARC SE Tin Tops and BARC SE Saloons.

The event also features a feast of off-track entertainment for all of the family, including a huge showtruck display, Red Dragon Monster Truck rides, Mini Monster Truck Mania, Team Maximum Lock stunt shows, YoungDrive sessions, go-karting, a big top circus tent, adventure playground, fairground, Diggerland diggers and trade village.

Tickets for Truck Racing at Brands Hatch are available on the gate for £15 on Saturday and £25 on Sunday, with discounts for 13-15 year-olds and free entry for under-13s. For more information call 0843 453 9000 or click  here.
