Jack Goff quickest in second BTCC practice at Snetterton

Saturday, July 29 2017

Jack Goff headed the second Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship practice session at Snetterton today (Saturday), ahead of this weekend's rounds on the 300 circuit.

Session one pacesetter Tom Ingram was near the sharp end of the order as second practice got underway, with Adam Morgan and Motorbase's Mat Jackson also amongst the quickest competitors. However there was an early stoppage when Matt Simpson's Honda went off on the Bentley Straight, and as the drivers returned to the track attention began to turn to qualifying runs ahead of this afternoon's crucial session.

Andrew Jordan and Matt Neal were early improvers, before Rob Austin moved up to fourth quickest ahead of Ollie Jackson, quick once again in the AmDtuning Audi S3. Next time around, Austin demoted Morgan at the top of the order, but the Mercedes struck back almost immediately to resume the position, whilst Ingram moved back up to second place and Colin Turkington fifth.

As the session entered its final ten minutes, Ash Sutton placed his Subaru second in the order, but was quickly demoted by Ingram. The pitlane became the scene of frenzied activity once more ahead of the final runs and the first to benefit was Goff, going quickest by a quarter of a second.

With just a couple of runs remaining, Josh Price moved up to second place in his newly-liveried Subaru, and the MG of Josh Cook entered the top ten. Many drivers were posting personal best sector times, but the rest of the top ten remained static in the closing moments.

Goff's session topping time was barely quicker than his best in the opening session, but no-one above him in opening practice could match their earlier best, so he heads into qualifying with the confidence of being quickest in the last session before the vital half-hour, which takes place at 15:50.
