10 things to look forward to in 2017

Sunday, January 01 2017

Happy New Year from all of us at MSV! The new season is just a few weeks away, so we've picked out ten things to do to help make 2017 a year to remember.

1. Watch a circuit Stage Rally

Rallying is on an upward curve at the moment. With spectacular new cars in the WRC, a potential world champion in Kris Meek and the tantalising prospect of Sebastian Ogier in an M-Sport Fiesta, there's never been so much interest in the sport. But you don't need to get lost in a forest to enjoy sideways speed - all of the action can be seen in the comfort of your favourite circuit, with rallies at Brands Hatch and Snetterton this winter, plus further events at Cadwell Park and Oulton Park later in the year.

2. Bask in the atmosphere of a summer BTCC round

The first and last rounds of the BTCC at Brands Hatch are always eagerly anticipated, but have you sampled the festival atmosphere at Oulton Park or spent a sun-drenched summer weekend at Snetterton? There's something special about a BTCC weekender, especially if you spend a couple of nights on the venue campsites amongst the partying fans.

3. And a summer MCE BSB party

There are seven opportunities to watch Shakey Byrne try and win his sixth MCE BSB title in the face of ever-tougher opposition, but we'd suggest making a bee-line for the two summer party events at Brands Hatch in July and Cadwell Park in August. The Kent weekender, on the Grand Prix circuit, has traditionally included events on the Thursday and Saturday nights, whilst Cadwell's Party in the Park is a must-do pilgrimage for any self-respecting motorcycle racing fan.

4. Easter British GT and F3 is back at Oulton Park

An early Easter in 2016 meant that Oulton Park's British GT and F3 event moved to the spring Bank Holiday weekend, but with chocolate eggs being eaten in April this year, they'll be accompanied by supercars and single-seater stars in Cheshire once again. Naturally you'll want to be trackside for this, especially with new cars and drivers to look out for, including BTCC runner-up Sam Tordoff in a Lamborghini.

5. American SpeedFest V

It's our fastest-growing event, but if you've yet to experience American SpeedFest then imagine a fantastic motor racing event plus much, much more. Everything American will be celebrated, and in the past this has included classic cars, all-you-can-eat food, Mariachi bands, Elvis, plus Lightning McQueen and Tow Mater from Disney's Cars as well as headline NASCAR Whelen Euro Series racing. And if you want more themed fun then get along to Festival Italia in August!

6. Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup

If you like supercars, then this really is nirvana. Last year's Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup grid featured almost 40 cars including Audis, BMWs, Lamborghinis, McLarens and Mercedes. The soundtrack was even more impressive with a symphony that included V8s and V10s. But what lifts this event above a pleasant motor racing weekend in the spring sun is the sheer variety of supercars on show - in addition to a huge display filling Colin Chapman Way last May was a stunning on-track demonstration from coveted machinery that included the Aston Martin Vulcan, McLaren P1 and Pagani's Zonda and Huayra.

7. Oulton Park Gold Cup

The jewel in Oulton Park's crown is one of the best historic racing events of the year. Proper motor racing from cars that are just too good to belong in museums, on a real racer's circuit. The Gold Cup also has a laid back atmosphere from the friendly paddock to the huge car club displays that fill the venue's idyllic infield. There are demonstrations and displays aplenty, and the circuit layout retains all of its legendary character.

8. Firework night events

November is a long time away, but now's the time to make a note in your diary for our firework night events. Brands Hatch Truck Racing and Fireworks has been a big hit since its debut in 2012, with a combination of exciting action from the giants of motorsport, plus fun attractions for all of the family, whilst Oulton Park's Stage Rally and Fireworks (on sale shortly) has taken off in a similar fashion. With Cheshire's display on Saturday 4 November and the Kent sky lighting up on the following night, why not visit both later this year?

9. Drive the F4 Master car

Last year the recently-decommissioned BRDC Formula 4 Championship single-seater was reborn as a driving experience car and proved to be a sensation, impressing reviewers and the public alike. If you've yet to try it out for yourself, make sure you don't miss out this year - just check the media reviews on our website for proof of how good it is. And the experience includes instruction in the legendary BMW M4!

10. Get on track in your own vehicle

Unlike most sporting venues, you can sample our circuits for yourself with MSV Trackdays. Whether you drive a car or ride a bike and regardless of it and your abilities there's a trackday for you. It's fantastic fun and you'll get a wider appreciation of what the pros can do, but beware - you could become addicted!
