One month to go until truck racers roar into action at Brands

Saturday, February 25 2017

There's just one month to go until the first major event of the 2017 season at Brands Hatch, and the British Truck Racing Championship (BTRC) is set to be bigger and better than ever this year, both on and off the track. Tickets are on sale now and under-13s go free.

The BTRC grid is set to expand this season, with new drivers and changes to familiar faces. Chief amongst these is reigning champion Ryan Smith, who, having claimed the title with an ex-FIA European Championship MAN, is set to debut a new rig from the continental series. Luke Taylor will also be upgrading to a former European Championship truck.

Also expected to be arriving at Brands Hatch with updated machinery is four-time champion Mat Summerfield. The Midlander relinquished a title that he had held since 2012 last November, as even his considerable guile and experience was not enough to keep up with the faster trucks. With new hardware he is sure to be out to take his revenge.

Also set to challenge at the front of the pack will be ten-time champion Stuart Oliver, who has recently missed out on the title twice and is hoping it will be third time lucky this season. Multiple winner David Jenkins, the 2011 champion, cannot be discounted either, and his never-say-die spirit has made him a firm favourite with fans.

There will be a minimum of eight truck races at the Brands Hatch season-opener, split between two divisions, and the second of these is set to offer even tougher competition this season with the return of two title rivals. The 2015 Division Two champion, Steven Powell returns for a crack at a third class crown, but he'll face his title rival from that season, Luke Garrett once again.

The Division Two field will also have a continental flavour, with Mika Makinen, who won here in November, back for more silverware. At least one of the Smit brothers, who dominated the class at Brands Hatch last spring before a dramatic incidence of sibling rivalry in the final race, will also be competing.

In addition to the eight BTRC races there's a packed support bill that includes the ever-popular Pickup Truck Racing Championship and Legends Cars, the pocket-sized hot-rods that consistently provide breathtakingly-close action. There's touring car entertainment from the Kumho BMW Championship, BARC SE Tin Tops and BARC SE Saloons, plus the Scrapco/Avon Intermarque Championship.

Brands Hatch Truck Racing events are also renowned for a wealth of off-track entertainment for all ages, and the event this March will be a treat for families. Already confirmed are Red Dragon Monster Truck rides, a funfair, go-karting, free adventure playground, plus a trade village and a huge show truck display.

Tickets for Truck Racing at Brands Hatch are available in advance from £19, or £12 to 13-15 year-olds, with free entry for under-13s. For more information call 0843 453 9000 or click  here.
