Entry lists for WorldSBK 2018 confirmed

Wednesday, December 13 2017

The provisional entry list for the 2018 World Superbike Championship has been released today, with British riders at the forefront once more, while several racers are set to make their WorldSBK debuts.

A total of 21 riders are confirmed for the 2018 season, which is headed by reigning three-time champion and BBC Sports Personality nominee Jonathan Rea and teammate Tom Sykes, both remaining with the works Kawasaki team. The Kawasaki chief challenger, Welshman Chaz Davies, stays with Ducati alongside charismatic Italian Marco Melandri.

Alex Lowes (Yamaha) and Leon Camier, promoted to the Red Bull Honda World Superbike team, complete the British roster, with all five capable of running at the front and likely to show well on home soil at the only UK round at Donington Park on 25-27 May.

Away from the Brits, Frenchman Loris Baz returns to the series after three seasons in MotoGP and should be a strong contender, having finished fifth overall in his most recent season in World Superbikes back in 2014.

Newcomers include 2015 European Superstock 600 champion Toprak Razgatlioglu, racing for Puccetti Kawasaki, long-time MotoGP competitor Yonny Hernandez, who will ride a Kawasaki for Team Pedercini Racing, and American P.J. Jacobsen, who had been a front-runner in World Supersport.

Meanwhile, Italian Gabriele Ruiu will make his World Superbike debut at the Donington round, as he will be too young to compete in the series before then.

As well as the World Superbike Championship, bumper entry lists for World Supersport and World Supersport 300 have been released too. Andrew Irwin (Honda), Kyle Smith (Honda) and Triumph pairing Stefan Hill and Luke Stapleford are the British representatives in the 30-strong field for the premier Supersport class, with Alex Murley (Yamaha) and Trystan Finocchiaro (Honda) racing in the 300 category alongside 34 other confirmed riders.
