Shakey holds off Haslam by 0.023s in free practice three

Saturday, August 19 2017

Shane 'Shakey' Byrne topped the final free practice session for the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship at Cadwell Park this morning, firing the Be Wiser Ducati to the top of the times in an incredibly close session, with just 0.0023s between the defending champion and Leon Haslam.

The leading contenders were scrapping for honours and the positions continued to change throughout the session with Peter Hickman again setting the pace early on before Byrne claimed the top spot. Dixon was fighting back and the RAF Reserves Kawasaki moved up the order, but he was to end the session third fastest as Haslam went ahead into second place for JG Speedfit Kawasaki.

Hickman was fourth fastest on the timesheets but set an identical lap time to Dixon with John Hopkins making it two Ducatis in the top five, putting the Moto Rapido Ducati team in fifth place ahead of James Ellison who dropped to sixth.

Jason O'Halloran was the leading rider from the Honda Racing team, moving marginally ahead of Christian Iddon for Tyco BMW with Michael Laverty and Lee Jackson completing the top ten.
