Oulton Park season to end in style with rally and fireworks event

Thursday, October 27 2016

Oulton Park's 2016 season will end with a big bang on Saturday 5 November, when the venue's annual stage rally event will climax with a mega fireworks display.

The Neil Howard Stage Rally has grown into a popular end-of-season fixture, bringing exciting sideways action to the Cheshire venue. A huge variety of cars from humble hatchbacks to high-tech World Rally specials will tackle a series of stages incorporating the circuit in both directions, access roads and even a dedicated water splash.

The rally will also be the opening round of the 2016/17 Motorsport News Circuit Rally Championship, which was launched at Oulton Park last month. The series will visit six circuits across the country and no fewer than 130 competitors have registered for the season, with a capacity entry of more than 85 set to contest the Cheshire stages.

Rally1Amongst the entries is local ex-Touring Car star and ITV Sport BTCC Presenter and Commentator Paul O'Neill. The Widnes-born half-brother of Spice Girl Mel C will be tackling the event at his home venue in a Mazda MX-5 with Motorsport News journalist Jack Benyon taking on co-driver duties.

"I do a lot of driving in the MX-5 Supercup with Paul Sheard," O'Neill said. "Paul rallies a Mark I MX-5 and he asked if I wanted to do the rally at Oulton. I'd heard massively good things about it and I've never done a rally, so that's basically how it's come about."

Rally2In addition to rallying action, visitors will be able to enjoy a host of off-track activities aimed at all of the family. Oulton Park's fleet of Toyota GT86 rally cars will be on hand to give spectators a chance to experience life in either the driver or co-driver's seat around a dedicated stage, whilst for younger fans there are bouncy castles, an adventure playground and face-painting.

The rally is set to end after dusk, with headlights, glowing brake discs and flaming exhausts providing a spectacular sight. Following this the Paul Swift stunt display will take centre stage, with a thrilling show of high-speed driving. The event will climax at 6:30pm when the bonfire will be lit, accompanied by a huge fireworks display to celebrate Guy Fawkes night and mark the end of a superb season at Oulton Park.

Tickets for the Neil Howard Stage Rally and Fireworks at Oulton Park on Saturday 5 November are available on the gate for £20 with free entry for under-13s. For more information please call 0843 453 9000 or click here.
