Ticktum snatches top spot from Armstrong in third British F3 practice

Friday, October 28 2016

It was very much a case of roles reversed in third practice at Snetterton on Friday, as Dan Ticktum stole top spot away from Double R Racing team-mate Marcus Armstrong on the last lap of the session, in a strikingly similar manner to what Armstrong had done to Ticktum in the second session prior to lunch.

Only 0.080s separated the Brit from the Kiwi with their team-mate Tarun Reddy also showing well to post the third quickest time, ensuring a Double R lock-out at the head of the field.

It was a relatively slow start to the session, with a number of drivers waiting a few minutes before emerging from their garages and heading out on to the track. Tarun Reddy was not perturbed though and he set the initial pace with a 1m43.828s, putting him ahead of Hillspeed with Cliff Dempsey Racing's Jordan Cane and Carlin's James Pull at the halfway point of the session.

Things soon began to heat up though and German F4 Champion Joey Mawson closed to within a tenth of Reddy's session leading time in his Douglas Motorsport car with session two pacesetter Armstrong going third quickest. Armstrong soon found yet more pace and took P1 spot away from Reddy with a 1m43.716s, an improvement of 0.112s on the Indian's time.

That order looked set as the chequered flag was unfurled but there was still time for one further change as Dan Ticktum hooked up a lap around the 300 circuit, and bettered Armstrong's time by just 0.080s to finish as third practice's fastest man.

Behin the Double R Racing trio came Mawson with Carlin's Enaam Ahmed fifth. Jordan Cane, who is unable to race in this weekend's Duo BRDC British F3 Autumn Trophy due to his age, was sixth quickest ahead of Callan O'Keeffe, Ben Hingeley, James Pull and Cameron Das.

The fourth and final practice session of the day gets underway at 15:55 and you can follow all the action through live timing and updates on the official British F3 website.
