Ticktum and Armstrong inseparable in fourth BF3 practice

Friday, October 28 2016

A thrilling four races awaits in this weekend's (29/30 October) Duo BRDC British Formula 3 Autumn Trophy after an unbelievably close fourth and final practice on Friday at Snetterton ended with Dan Ticktum topping the time sheets, and second placed man Marcus Armstrong recording exactly the same time with nothing separating the leading duo.

With just 30 minutes more running ahead of tomorrow's qualifying session which will kick off the 2016 Autumn Trophy, track time was of the essence. Most drivers took to the 300 circuit in Norfolk immediately and it was Ticktum who was first on the pace, a 1m43.746s putting him at the head of the field, ahead of James Pull and Jordan Cane.

That sparked the Fortec Motorsports duo of Callan O'Keeffe and Ben Hingeley into life, with the South African lapping the track in a time just 0.256s slower than Ticktum to move into second. Hingeley meanwhile, who recorded podium finishes in the main BRDC British F3 Championship this year, moved into fourth just a tenth of a second slower than his team-mate.

As the session moved into its closing stages, German F4 Champion Joey Mawson improved and he took fourth before session two pace-setter Armstrong posted the exact same time as his Double R Racing team-mate Ticktum, with the Kiwi staying in second by virtue of the 16-year-old setting the time after the Brit.

Tarun Reddy, a fellow stablemate of Ticktum and Armstrong at Double R, continued to push hard and he went into third, just 0.088s shy of his team-mates times. However, on the next lap, Reddy went off at Coram and that brought out the red flag. With little time to recover his car before time expired, the chequered flag flew shortly after leaving Ticktum and Armstrong locked at the head of the field.

Behind Reddy in third came O'Keeffe and Mawson, with Carlin's Enaam Ahmed sixth quickest. Hingeley took seventh with the top-10 rounded out by Pull, Cane and American Cameron Das, with just 0.707s covering Ticktum in first and Das in 10th.

It is set to be a thrilling Duo BRDC British Formula 3 Autumn Trophy and you can follow all the action, which gets underway with qualifying at 10:55 tomorrow, through live timing and updates on the official British F3 website.
