Titanic BTCC battle heads to Oulton Park this weekend

Monday, May 30 2016

Britain's biggest car racing championship heads to Oulton Park this weekend (4/5 June), when the Cheshire circuit plays host to the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship's (BTCC) fender-bending thrills.

Oulton Park traditionally hosts the championship's best-attended round, with crowds flocking to the Tarporley venue to see their four-wheeled heroes racing cars familiar from the UK's streets. Many will only have eyes for Blackburn's Adam Morgan, who races a Mercedes A-Class for family team WIX Racing. Just three points off the title lead and with two victories so far in 2016, Morgan is fired up for a weekend to remember.

"It's been a great start, we're the first to get two wins this year," Adam said. "It's always nice coming to your local one, it's lovely and as Oulton is always of the busiest events it makes it special. I think we've got a good car and there's no reason why we shouldn't be at the front."

Adam's rivals include join championship leaders Matt Neal (Honda) and Rob Collard (WSR BMW), plus their team-mates including reigning champion Gordon Shedden (Honda), and WSR's Sam Tordoff, who claimed a race victory here last year. The list of at least ten potential winners includes Motorbase Ford pairing Mat Jackson and 2013 Champion Andrew Jordan, and MG's young chargers Josh Cook and Ashley Sutton. Just 21 points separates the top eight in the title race, and with 67 on offer this weekend, that's all set to change.

Meanwhile Northwich's Speedworks has taken two pole positions and a race win this season with rising star Tom Ingram (Toyota), and is tipped for further success. Oulton Park is also expected to mark a turning point for the new Subarus of double champions Colin Turkington and Jason Plato, who took a double victory in Cheshire last season.

Also competing in his fourth BTCC meeting will be Oldham's Kelvin Fletcher, known to many as Emmerdale's Andy Sugden. Despite having no time to test before his series debut, Kelvin just missed out on his first points finish last time out. "I am looking forward to the Oulton round," Kelvin said. "Oulton is where I did my first ever race in a Mini and I put it on pole, and I went on to get a second in that race. My brother had his first ever win at Oulton Park, it's a track that we love, that's where most of my family and friends will be there to support me, I think it's a fantastic circuit."

Visitors will see three BTCC races on main raceday Sunday, plus a huge supporting programme of action from the Porsche Carrera Cup GB, Renault UK Clio Cup, Ginetta GT Supercup, Ginetta Juniors and British Formula 4.

The event will also include a free BTCC pitwalk and autograph session where visitors can meet all of the drivers, live music, funfair, trade village and children's entertainment including free face painting. The event is renowned for an early summer festival atmosphere with a lively campsite.

Tickets for the BTCC at Oulton Park on 4/5 June are available in advance from £27, with free entry for under-13s. For more information, call 0843 453 9000 or click here.
