Motorbase pairing pumped up for Brands Hatch BTCC this weekend

Tuesday, March 29 2016

Local team Motorbase Performance is aiming to kick off this weekend's (2/3 April) Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season-opening rounds at Brands Hatch where it left off last season - in winning style.

With pole position, two wins and a second place from last October's 2015 season finale at the Kent circuit, the team starts the new season as joint favourites with Honda. However Mat Jackson won't be relying on the form book when he climbs into the Ford Focus this weekend.

"I think last year was last year," he said, referring to new upgraded suspension parts that almost all of the teams will be running. "It's a new chapter, and it's not going to be a seamless transition, [but] I think it will be a good season."

Mat is also aware that he had an advantage in the final rounds of 2015 that helped his form. "The Honda clearly was the car to have last year, he said. "They won the championship, they comfortably won races with maximum ballast, and we had the luxury of not carrying that ballast."

Mat's joined by 2013 champion Andrew Jordan this year, but Mat warns there's no room for egos if they are to build upon the team's strong form. "We've got to work together; obviously with team-mates you always want to be the quickest one, but we've got a new package in the championship and we must work together to get the best out of it."

Jordan agrees and is looking forward to working with Mat. "I've known Mat for a while," he said. "I knew when I signed up that he was pretty much going to be my team-mate, which is great and I think that we'll push each other on well. We both want to win the championship, so at some point it will be one of us can and one can't maybe, but we're old enough and professional enough that we'll do it right."

Jordan, who has first-hand knowledge of the Team Dynamics-built Hondas, is clearly aware of the threat posed by Gordon Shedden and Matt Neal, but is also wary of the new and as-yet-untested Subaru Levorg. "I think they'll be strong," he said. Colin will be very strong back to rear-wheel-drive, and Jason's one of the best drivers in the championship and the country, so although they'll get the car out late they'll be on the money straight away I think.

"But I'm not that bothered about anyone else if I'm honest, I'll just work as hard as I can. I'm loving being part of this team - I'm pumped up because I've got something special."
