Unprecedented access to historic cars at Brands next weekend

Friday, June 24 2016

Fans visiting next weekend's Legends of Brands Hatch Superprix (1-3 July) will have unprecedented access to the cars during the build up to the races.

The Historic Sports Car Club event has drawn a total entry of up to 500 cars spanning five decades of racing history and new arrangements for the pre-race procedures are being put in place to give fans the chance to see the cars at close quarters as drivers and teams prepare for the races.

To accommodate the record-breaking entry, the teams and cars will be split across three paddock areas and two new assembly areas at the Kent venue.

Many of the weekend's categories, including the Pre '66 Grand Prix Cars from the HGPCA, Formula Junior, Classic F3, Historic F3 and Historic Touring Cars will be based in the main outer paddock. These cars will assemble in long lines in a new area within the main paddock area. From here, the cars will be released through the tunnel to join the track on Cooper Straight.

An area behind the hospitality suites opposite the pits, known as Paddock 2, will be the base for the Super Touring cars and those contesting the GT and Sports Car Cup, which is for pre '66 GT cars and pre '63 sports-racing cars of a type that raced in the World Endurance Championship in period. These cars will assemble adjacent to the Kentagon Restaurant and access the track via the ambulance gate at the top of Paddock Hill Bend.

In the paddock garages on the inside of the track will be the Formula 2, Derek Bell Trophy and Pre '80 Endurance cars. These grids will assemble in the pit lane.

"With such a big entry and such a busy timetable, we've made some changes to the usual procedures for Brands Hatch," said Grahame White, CEO of the HSCC. "We're very grateful to the team at Brands Hatch for all their help and support. I think the new arrangements will work well and the spectators will be able to see the race build-ups at very close quarters."

Tickets for the HSCC Legends of Brands Hatch Superprix are available from £19, with free entry for under-13s. For more information call 0843 453 9000 or click here.
