Infamous BMW headlines stunning Superprix Super Tourer line-up

Thursday, June 23 2016

A stunning line-up of Super Touring Cars from the 1990s will take to the track at the Legends of Brands Hatch Superprix on 1-3 July, including an infamous Listerine-liveried BMW 318, as raced in the 1992 British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) by Tim Harvey and Steve Soper.

The Harvey/Soper car was involved in one of the most iconic moments of British national motor racing history, when Harvey was embroiled in a three-way fight for the title with Vauxhall works aces John Cleland and Toyota driver Will Hoy. Having been driven for Vic Lee Motorsport by Harvey for the balance of the season, the car was handed to Soper for the final round at Silverstone where he collided with Cleland, allowing Harvey to take the title.

The 23-strong grid expected to take to the Kent circuit's classic Grand Prix layout also includes period hero Cleland and Patrick Watts. Both men were stalwarts of the BTCC's most popular era, with Cleland taking the crown as the series reached the peak of its popularity in 1995. Cleland will drive his 1998 Vauxhall Vectra, whilst Watts has entered his Peugoet 406 from the same season.

Other highlight entries will include no fewer than four of the rapid Honda Accords that battled for victories towards the end of the '90s, and a pair of Volvo S40s, as used by Rickard Rydell during his championship-winning 1998 campaign. One of the S40s will be driven by Michael Lyons, one of the quickest drivers in historic racing circles.

There will be a world champion car in the field too with Scott O'Donnell's 1994 Ford Mondeo. This iconic blue machine was victorious in that year's World Touring Car Cup in the hands of New Zealand's Paul Radisich.
