Oulton Park Gold Cup tickets now on sale

Saturday, January 23 2016

Tickets for the Oulton Park Gold Cup are now on sale, and the Cheshire circuit is set to welcome classic Grand Prix cars and the golden era of the BTCC at its annual summer Bank Holiday jamboree of nostalgia on 27-29 August.

The event is a firm favourite with Oulton Park fans and this year the Historic Sports Car Club's north-western fixture will recall several of the Gold Cup's early eras.

The 1950s and 60s brought non-championship Formula One races to Cheshire and continued a tradition for the sport's top echelon following the demise of Aintree's Grand Prix events. Representing this era will be the Historic Grand Prix Cars Association, with races for classics including Italy's Maserati and the British 'garagiste' outfits Cooper and Lotus.

The 1970s saw Formula 5000 and later Group 8 competition qualify for the Gold Cup, which also incorporated Formulae 2 and 3 machinery. The HSCC's Derek Bell Trophy encapsulates this period and continues to be a popular attraction at the modern-day event.

In the 1990s the Gold Cup was awarded to the winner of BTCC races at Oulton Park during the sport's epic Supertouring era. This will be commemorated with the much-anticipated return of the Super Touring Car Trophy, in which past masters John Cleland and Patrick Watts have competed their Vauxhall and Peugeot cars against rivals including Honda Accords, Nissan Primeras, Ford Mondeos and much more.

The Gold Cup will also include races for older Touring Cars, including Lotus Cortinas, Mini Coopers and American muscle cars, plus single seaters and sportscars. In addition to frenetic action on track there will be rally car demonstrations, parades, displays and a trade village.

Tickets for the Oulton Park Gold Cup on 27-29 August are available in advance from £19, with free entry to under-13s. For more information call 0843 453 9000 or click here.
