Maserati joins British GT Championship grid

Wednesday, February 10 2016

Italy's Maserati is the latest marque to be represented on the British GT Championship grid, with Ebor GT confirming plans to enter a GranTurismo MC in the series, which gets underway at Brands Hatch on 16/17 April.

A Maserati has only appeared on one other occasion in the championship, when a Ghilbi GT2 raced occasionally in 1998. Ebor GT, which competed for last year's GT Cup Championship, will enter the 4.7 litre V8 GranTurismo MC in the GT4 class, facing opposition from Aston Martin, Ginetta, Lotus and Porsche.

The GranTurismo MC will be driven by former Ginetta GT Supercup racer Marcus Hoggarth, who contested last season's GT Cup with the team. He'll be joined by fellow GT Cup graduate Abbie Eaton, who is also a former Mazda MX-5 SuperCup champion.

Eaton said: "It will be my debut year in the championship and after working hard the past few years I am thrilled to have been given this opportunity. The car looks a fantastic piece of kit and I can't wait to get my hands on it. Having shared a podium with Marcus last year in GT Cup I am confident of our driver pairing and hope we will push each all year."

Team owner Adrian Snook said: "We've always worked with Italian cars and the GranTurismo MC GT4 is a beautiful machine so we saw it as the next step. GT4 racing is good value compared to GT3 and British GT is the best place to do it by the looks of it as the grid larger than ever. We chose the Maserati as it's been racing for a while now as a single-make Trophy car so it's a proven product with plenty of miles of development on it."

Tickets are available for the 2016 British GT Championship rounds at Brands Hatch on 16/17 April, Oulton Park on 28/30 May and Snetterton on 6/7 August. Entry for all events is free for under-13s. For more information click on the links.
