Blancpain GT grid boosted by Nissan and Lamborghini entries

Sunday, February 28 2016

This year's Blancpain GT Series round at Brands Hatch on 7/8 May will be boosted by the inclusion of two Nissan GT-Rs and a pair of Lamborghini Huracans amongst the grid of supercars.

Nissan/NISMO has confirmed it will be entering the Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup this season with its GT-R, which won the Blancpain Endurance Series last season. The programme will be run by RJN Motorsport, which has previously competed in the British GT Championship, with support from NISMO.

Highly experienced NISMO driver Alex Buncombe will team up with 23-year-old young Japanese star Mitsunori Takaboshi in one car. The other will be driven by Sean Walkinshaw, who competed in last year's Blancpain Sprint Series round at Brands Hatch with a Nissan GT-R, with Mexican Ricardo Sánchez as his team-mate.

Shoichi Miyatani, CEO and president of NISMO, said: "We are progressing with development and testing to ensure that the supremacy of the GT-R is felt worldwide, and will be actively competing in motorsports throughout 2016 and taking home more victories, titles and glory for Nissan. We are all very excited in the lead up to this season and hope to share the excitement and passion of motorsport with all our fans."

Nissan's move is expected to be part of a significant entry increase for the Sprint category, which has been renamed the Blancpain Sprint Cup for this season. Organiser SRO has adjusted the regulations so that the full prize fund is only available to teams contesting both Endurance and Sprint races.

Meanwhile German squad Attempto Racing will field a pair of Lamborghini Huracán GT3s in the Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup. Drivers will include Italy's Davide Valsecchi, a former GP2 Champion and Lotus F1 test driver, who will race alongside Max van Splunteren of the Netherlands. The other car will be driven by Switzerland's Patric Niederhauser and Italian Daniel Zampieri.

Arkin Aka, Managing Director of Attempto Racing, said: "Our status as a works-assisted Lamborghini team has allowed us access to works drivers and drivers from the Lamborghini development programs. The Huracán GT3 has already shown what it is capable of, and we are definitely a force to be reckoned with. I am looking forward to the new season."

The Blancpain GT Series round at Brands Hatch will also feature additional supercar races from the Blancpain GT Sports Club and GT Cup, plus an exclusive appearance from the Blancpain Ultracar Sports Club with the world's fastest cars including the Bugatti Veryon, McLaren P1, LaFerrari, Porsche 918 and many more.

Tickets to the Blancpain GT Series at Brands Hatch are available from £21 with free entry to under-13s and a special teen rate for 13-15 year-olds. For more information call 0843 453 9000 or click  here.
