50 days until BTCC 2016 is go at Brands Hatch!

Saturday, February 13 2016

There are just 50 days to go until Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship raceday at Brands Hatch (Sunday 3 April), and the opening rounds of the 2016 season are hugely anticipated - here are five reasons why you won't want to miss it.

Three superteams set to go head-to-head

Reigning champions Honda Racing is up against stronger competition this year as Gordon Shedden attempts to defend his title in the Civic Type R alongside triple champion Matt Neal and new recruit Andy Neate. Team BMR has gained works status with new manufacturer Subaru, and the new rear-wheel-drive Levorg will have double champions Jason Plato and Colin Turkington at the wheel, whilst over at Motorbase, Mat Jackson returns to drive the Ford Focus that dominated the final rounds of 2015, with 2013 champion Andrew Jordan in the team's second car.

Even more teams ready to challenge for the title

WSR won the 2014 title with their BMW 125i M-Sport, and race winners Rob Collard and Sam Tordoff are joined by rising star Jack Goff in the third car. Tordoff is ready for a championship challenge and all three cars are capable of topping the podium. Meanwhile a rejuvenated MG squad is determined to fight back, with drivers set to be confirmed in the coming weeks.

At least 15 potential race winners in the pack

WIX Racing's Adam Morgan will be aiming to add to his two race wins, with Rob Austin keen to do the same after switching to Handy Motorsport. Tom Ingram is ready to break through into victory lane in the Speedworks Toyota, whilst Power Maxed Racing is poised to make the next step after an impressive 2015 campaign.

Car changes ready to upset the order

All teams are working through a busy winter, with new suspension components required for all cars in 2016. This means that even champions Honda Racing have plenty of work to do to ensure that their cars are ready to win from the opening round and if another team gets it right first, this could rip up the formbook.

New cars and drivers set to shake up the field

Following the car's title success in 2015 there will be a proliferation of Civic Type Rs in the field, with Eurotech set to run three cars and rookie Matt Simpson also running a Team Dynamics-built Honda. AmDtuning will add a second S3 to the field in classic Audi colours, whilst local squad Team HARD expect new recruit Chris Smiley to move them up the grid.

That's not all - in addition to three BTCC races, there's a packed support programme with action from the Renault UK Clio Cup, Porsche Carrera Cup GB, Ginetta Juniors, Ginetta GT Supercup and MSA Formula. There's also a funfair, trade village, free pitwalk and autograph session with the BTCC drivers, go-karting and live music on the Saturday night.

Tickets for the BTCC at Brands Hatch on 2/3 April are available in advance from £27, with free entry for under-13s. For more information call 0843 453 9000 or click here.
