Oulton Park gears up for MCE British Superbike Championship return

Monday, April 25 2016

Oulton Park is gearing up for its biggest event of 2016 so far, as the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship hits Cheshire this Bank Holiday weekend (30 April - 2 May). There are three packed days of high-speed entertainment in store, with incredible racing at speeds as high as 180mph!

MCE BSB is the country's biggest motor racing series, featuring a high-quality grid of 32 riders from across the globe, hailing from as far as Australia, America, and Japan, as well as home-grown favourites such as four-time champion Shane 'Shakey' Byrne on board his Be Wiser Ducati.

Byrne leads the standings ahead of the two races on Bank Holiday Monday, as he currently holds a slender five-point advantage over Tyco BMW rider Michael Laverty, who in turn, is just another three points clear of his team-mate and local contender, Stockport's Christian Iddon.

Amongst those particularly looking forward to the championship's Oulton Park round is Ellesmere Port native Jenny Tinmouth, the UK's leading female motorcycle racer. Tinmouth is onboard a factory-prepared Honda Racing Team machine for the second successive year, and she's aiming for her first points haul of the season.

Tinmouth, who believes her chances will be boosted by support from her local crowd, said:"I always look forward to Oulton Park, it's my home round so always very special to me and it's a circuit I always enjoy riding. I had a good test there last Friday with the team, so I am just looking forward to getting out there for the race weekend now."

The Bank Holiday entertainment gets underway with Free Practice on Saturday, before the starting order is determined in a thrilling three-stage knockout Datatag Qualifying session on Sunday afternoon. The main show will take place on Bank Holiday Monday, when the MCE BSB's runners and riders take to the picturesque circuit's full international circuit for two thrilling races.

Sunday will also feature races from the support classes including the incredibly close Dickies British Supersport Championship and the British Sidecar Championship, which will feature former MCE BSB contender Chris 'Stalker' Walker making his much anticipated debut on three wheels!

Tickets for the Bank Holiday round of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship are available to purchase at the event and children under 13 go free! For more information on ticket prices, news and the latest schedule please click here.
