No track time for Jolyon Palmer as FP2 is washed out in Austin

Friday, October 23 2015

Jolyon Palmer was unable to complete any running in Austin today (October 23), as Free Practice Two ahead of the United States Grand Prix was completely washed out due to thunderstorms.

The 24-year-old had initially been scheduled to run in Free Practice One but due to the weather forecast, he stepped aside to enable Lotus F1 Team's main race driver Romain Grosjean to get as much experience of the track as possible. Jolyon was slated to return to the cockpit for Free Practice Two but the conditions put paid to any running.

After a deluge covered the circuit in between FP1 and FP2, the rain then returned shortly before the start of the second 90-minute session of the day, with lightening visible in the area around the track. Spectators and marshals were urged to seek shelter indoors as the session was delayed 'indefinitely'. After a wait of nearly one hour, the session was ultimately cancelled as the medical helicopter was unable to fly.

Jolyon will take part in a number of further Free Practice One sessions in the 2015 season, which will be confirmed at a later date.
