Jolyon Palmer to skip FP1 in Austin, may run in FP2

Friday, October 23 2015

With torrential rain forecast for the US Grand Prix weekend in Austin, Jolyon Palmer won't run in Free Practice One today (October 23) with Lotus F1 Team's main race driver Romain Grosjean instead driving the E23 Hybrid. Jolyon may drive in Free Practice Two should the weather conditions improve.

Heavy rain has hit the Circuit of the Americas in Texas since early on Friday morning, with the downpours expected to continue into Saturday, making clear track time a premium ahead of race day on Sunday. As a result, Jolyon will step aside in the opening 90-minute session of the weekend to enable Frenchman Grosjean to get as much experience of the track as possible, ahead of a return to the cockpit in Free Practice Two if on-track conditions allow for it.

The 2014 GP2 Champion will be heavily involved in the Enstone-based squad's weekend activities as part of his role as Third and Reserve Driver, providing input into tyre and race strategy meetings alongside his media commitments.

Jolyon will also take part in a number of further Free Practice One sessions in the 2015 season, which will be confirmed at a later date.

Free Practice Two in the United States will begin at 20:00 UK time on October 23. You can follow all the action on Sky Sports F1 channel from 19:45 and with updates on Jolyon's official website.
