2016 British GT and BRDC Formula 4 calendars announced

Tuesday, October 27 2015

The 2016 British GT and Duo BRDC Formula 4 calendars have been announced, with the two championships joining forces for the second year in succession. Both will race at MSV's Brands Hatch, Oulton Park and Snetterton circuits next season.

The British GT Championship has consolidated its position as one of the strongest championships in the UK, with grids of more than 30 cars representing evocative names including Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren and Porsche. The 2016 calendar will include one-hour races at Oulton Park and Snetterton, and a two-hour race at Brands Hatch.

The Duo BRDC Formula 4 season will be the first main championship with the new, more powerful Tatuus-Cosworth BRDC F4 car, following its introduction in the upcoming 2015 Autumn Trophy. The new car features a more sophisticated aerodynamic package and a 230bhp spec 2-litre Cosworth spec engine, making BRDC Formula 4 the logical feeder to the FIA European Formula 3 Championship and GP3 Series.

BRDC F4's familiar weekend format will continue next year, with qualifying and one race on the first day of the meeting, followed by two races on the final day, with the 2016 season featuring a total of 24 races. The championship will kick off with a standalone round at Snetterton on Easter weekend, before the double-header format with British GT begins at Brands Hatch in April.

Benjamin Franassovici, British GT Championship Manager said: "I'm delighted that next season's British GT calendar will mix elements of continuity with a slightly re-jigged format. Our successful partnership with BRDC F4 will feature a new, much faster car for its second season alongside British GT. It's also worth noting that a number of new GT3 teams will be announcing their plans over the winter period, and we might even see several new-generation GT3 models joining the fray, too. The British GT package has seldom looked stronger."

Jonathan Palmer, Chief Executive of BRDC F4 promoters MSV, said: "Our 2016 BRDC F4 calendar is by far our strongest yet, again with 24 races over 8 superb events. I am delighted that our successful partnership with British GT will continue and expand to seven co-headlining events, including the Spa-Francorchamps for the championship's first overseas round. With our new and considerably faster Tatuus-Cosworth car, BRDC F4 looks set to become a vastly more affordable successor to British F3 and will perfectly complement SRO's excellent British GT championship to form an even more enticing package in 2016."
