BTCC's Collard: We are coming to Oulton Park with confidence

Wednesday, May 27 2015

Rob Collard, winner of the opening round of this year's Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship, is looking forward to continuing a promising campaign at Oulton Park next weekend (6/7 June).

Although the WSR BMW 125i M-Sport is not the dominant force that it was last year, Rob's happy with how the season has progressed so far, which included getting one over his triple World Champion team-mate Andy Priaulx in the first race of the year. "Winning at Brands Hatch in the opening race was a great way to start the season," he said. "Donington was close when we had a fourth and the podium at Thruxton was fantastic - it was virtually a race win! I am generally very pleased with how the season has gone to date."

The win has contributed to a total points haul that puts him ahead of his team-mates: "I am delighted to be leading the team forward at the moment and to be the most successful WSR driver so far. I will be trying my hardest to maintain this position throughout the season."

If there is a cloud on Rob's horizon, it's that he feels that the BMW could be a little quicker on the straights: "We feel our engine performance is poor in comparison to the other cars on the grid and this is compounded when we have to carry success ballast, which has proved difficult to myself and my team members."

For this reason Rob will be looking out for at least six cars next weekend. "I very much expect the Hondas and Volkswagens to be very strong," he said.

"We are coming to Oulton Park with confidence. The car will be quick as Oulton Park is very much a chassis handling circuit and not so dependent on power. Last year we had our most successful meeting with two 1-2s in the opening two races of the day."

Tickets for the BTCC at Oulton Park on 6/7 June are available in advance from £26, with free entry for children under 13. For more information call 0843 453 9000 or click here.
