Record numbers for American SpeedFest III car displays

Thursday, March 26 2015

American SpeedFest III is set to be the biggest celebration of US motoring yet at Kent's Brands Hatch circuit, with record numbers of American display cars flocking to the venue on Sunday 7 June. The venue's off-track areas will be crammed with more than 1,100 iconic machines, thanks to massive fleets of American car club representatives in addition to hundreds of unaffiliated American car enthusiasts.

No fewer than 100 examples of the Ford Mustang, arguably America's most famous muscle car, are set to appear thanks to the Mustang Drivers Club and Mustang Owners Club. Examples will vary from the Mustang GT Fastback, as driven by Steve McQueen in the iconic car chase centre piece to 1968 film Bullitt, to the performance-orientated Mustang Mach 1, 1980s 'Fox Body' models, and modern incarnations.

Other American icons set to feature include the Pontiac Firebird Trans-Am, the type of car which starred in Smokey and the Bandit alongside Burt Reynolds, the luxury Cadillac Eldorado, complete with fins and chrome bumpers, and the Hummer H2, the USA's most famous heavy-duty off-road machine.

Two-wheeled machines are set to play a bigger role than ever before at SpeedFest, with bike displays starring examples from Harley Davidson, American bike manufacturing's most evocative marque, and other unique chopper-style bikes. Other interesting bikes set to appear include the Indian Chief, and customised machines from Steel Horse Motors.

Other organisations taking part include UK-based specialist Chrysler PT Cruiser, AC Cobra, Classic Corvette, and V8 clubs.

In addition to the extensive range of road cars on display, there will be plenty of classic and vintage hot rods to look at, recalling the early years of stock car and drag racing in America.

The glitz and glamour of Hollywood is also set to make an appearance, with a display of famous mechanical stars of the silver screen, with more details to be confirmed in the coming weeks.

These extensive car displays will form just one part of an extensive programme of off-track entertainment at American SpeedFest III, joining stunt and drift shows, monster truck rides, a hot dog eating competition, an extensive trade village and much more.

On-track action is tailored to fans of American engineering too, with headline action from the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series, and supporting contests from Bernie's Historic V8s.

Brands Hatch Motorsports Event Manager David Willey commented: "It's always been our aim with SpeedFest to try and put on the biggest display of motoring Americana on this side of the Atlantic. We're already way ahead of last year in terms of confirmed car clubs and display vehicles and I'm only expecting that number to increase over the coming weeks. I'm looking forward to seeing large contingents of Fords, Pontiacs, Chevrolets and Cadillacs joining us and I'm sure the fans will love it to. With such a high-level of interest from American car owners, and increased participation from motorcycles, this is going to be the best off-track SpeedFest display yet!"

Adult tickets for the American SpeedFest at Brands Hatch on Sunday 7 June 2015 are on sale now here. Children under 13 go free.
