Plato shades champion Turkington in official BTCC pre-season test

Tuesday, March 24 2015

Jason Plato got the better of reigning champion team-mate Colin Turkington in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship's official pre-season test at Donington Park today (Tuesday), ahead of the opening round at Brands Hatch on 4/5 April.

Turkington's Team BMR VW CC led the order early on until Jason Plato demoted him into second place. Turkington closed the gap to just six thousandths of a second, before a passing shower helped ensure that the 2014 runner-up would remain at the top of the order throughout the final hour.

Third place was fought between the MGs and the Mercedes A-Classes. The battle was eventually won by Aiden Moffat, who almost took second spot in the Laser Tools Mercedes, and beating Adam Morgan's WIX Racing example by just four thousandths. Jack Goff had the better of Andrew Jordan by a quarter of a second.

Hunter Abbott's Audi A4 was the fastest rear-wheel-drive car, beating Warren Scott's VW and Martin Depper, who was the quickest of the Honda Civics. Sam Tordoff took tenth for WSR, his BMW shading Dave Newsham's Chevrolet and Matt Neal's works Civic Type R. Just one second covered the top 12.

Gordon Shedden suffered teething troubles in his new Civic Type R, whilst Tom Ingram (Speedworks Toyota) and Aron Smith (BMR VW) completed just three laps.

A total of 25 cars took part in the only official timed test before the opening round of the season at Brands Hatch on Easter weekend (4/5 April).
