British GT and BRDC F4 partnership launched at Brands Hatch

Wednesday, March 25 2015

The alliance between the Avon Tyres British GT Championship and Duo BRDC Formula 4 Championship launched at Brands Hatch today, as representatives from both series gathered for an official pre-season test and media day.

Both championships will start the year in fine health at Oulton Park on Easter Weekend (Saturday 4 and Monday 6 April), with the British GT Championship unveiling a grid of more than thirty cars, whilst the Duo BRDC Formula 4 Championship will have a grid comprising no fewer than 20.

The British GT Championship has revealed an immensely talented entry list for the year, with multiple British Touring Car Championship race-winner Mat Jackson unveiled as the latest tin top star to have a go at GT racing. He lines up alongside Phil Dryburgh in a Motorbase-prepared Oman Racing Team Aston Martin Vantage GT3, on a grid that also includes fellow former BTCC front-runners Tom Onslow-Cole and Jonny Adam.

Other notable entrants include factory-backed McLaren drivers Ross Wylie and Andrew Watson, in the marque's latest 650S GT3 challenger and reigning champions Ecurie Ecosse with Marco Attard and BMW ace Alexander Sims in a Z4 GT3.

Ecurie Ecosse will also appear on the Duo BRDC Formula 4 grid, running alongside the GT calendar at six meeting this year, entering a car for Scottish ace Ciaran Haggerty, protégé of three-time Indianapolis 500 winner Dario Franchitti.

BRDC F4 continued to assert itself as the nation's leading single-seater series by announcing its 20th driver James Reveler, who will compete for the new 23 Racing outfit. Reveler steps from karting, following a successful 2014, in which he claimed the Kent Karting Championship Rotax Max crown. Reveler commented: "I am delighted to be joining a series as competitive as the BRDC Formula 4 Championship. There's a vast number of highly experienced and fast drivers so it will be a steep learning curve for me. However, I hope to develop as a racer throughout the year and post some competitive results."

Speaking about the new tie-up with Stephane Ratel's Organisation, MSV Chief Executive Jonathan Palmer commented: "We have, under SRO's guidance, a very rapidly burgeoning British GT Championship which is coming up to be, in terms of entries, and in terms of performance, and appeal to a big section of the fans, very strong indeed. I think part of the appeal of the championship is that these guys are racing fabulous cars, the sort of cars we all love, whether it's Aston Martin, McLarens, Porsches, Mercedes, or BMWs.

"It was certainly very important for us to continue to develop our Duo BRDC F4 Championship, it's been very successful indeed and we're now just starting our third year. BRDC F4 is the natural successor of British Formula 3 and as such its natural place is to be alongside British GT, where F3 has been, in past years, very successful. We were keen to partner with British GT and the SRO, we're very pleased indeed that Stephane could see the logic and relevance of it as well and it's going to be a very strong partnership"

Ratel added: "Globally we can see the success of the GT3 category with a record number of manufacturers now directly preparing and selling cars and supporting teams. If you look at all of the national GT Championships, I have to say that British GT is probably the best.

"I'm pleased we've made this partnership with Jonathan to make this platform with the British GT and F4 series and to keep a strong single-seater series as part of the package. I think it's good for all of us."
