MSVR delivers hugely successful London ePrix

Monday, June 29 2015

MotorSport Vision Racing, the race-organising division of major UK circuit owner MSV, ensured that last weekend's (27/28 June) final rounds of the inaugural FIA Formula E Championship season were a huge success, with a large crowd witnessing a thrilling title fight.

The races, held on the tight confines of Battersea Park, delivered a stunning season finale, in which the championship teetered on a knife edge. Despite an all-out assault by reigning WEC champion Sebastian Buemi, who won the opening race of the weekend, Nelson Piquet Jr took the championship by a single point. British hopes were realised when Virgin Racing's Sam Bird won the final race of the season.

Despite the challenging nature of street racing, MSVR's team ensured that both races ran smoothly, with just a single safety car period required for a recovery operation. The organisation was responsible for providing a full team of marshals, officials and rescue and recovery vehicles for the event.

Having successfully tendered for the role of organising club earlier this year, the MSVR team's role began long before the event was held. Their duties included applying for a permit to hold the event and attending several planning meetings to help assure local stakeholders that it would run in a smooth and safe manner, with minimal disruption to Battersea Park users.

"Organising a race on a temporary circuit presented us with a huge challenge", said Race Operations Manager, David Scott, who acted as Clerk of the Course for the event. "I would like to express my very sincere thanks to the many marshals and officials that have worked so hard in making the inaugural London ePrix a huge success. The team performed a fantastic job, from the initial planning meetings until the chequered flag fell in the final race."

Formula E Sporting Manager, Benoît Dupont, said: "The first ever FIA Formula E ePrix of London has been a great success thanks to the great work achieved by the MSVR team, led by David Scott, that managed to ensure on-track safety on the demanding Battersea Park Street circuit. I would like to personally thank all of the marshals, without whom this event couldn't have happened."
