Byrne tops opening MCE BSB session at Snetterton

Friday, June 19 2015

Shane 'Shakey' Byrne and Josh Brookes kicked off the opening MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship free practice session at Snetterton with a duel at the top as the pair already have been setting a pace inside the existing lap record.

The session instantly started with Byrne and Brookes going head-to-head at the top and in the closing moments the pair switched places three times as the defending champion held the advantage before Brookes moved ahead with 0.009s between them. However in the final minutes Byrne reclaimed the position at the top to hold off his Australian rival by 0.187s

James Ellison was consistently posting times to keep him inside the top three for the JG Speedfit Kawasaki team with the championship leader holding off Ryuichi Kiyonari and Jakub Smrz who were in close contention.

Be Wiser Kawasaki had a strong session with Danny Buchan holding sixth place and Chris Walker in eighth, split by the Quattro Plant Kawasaki of Howie Mainwaring. Lee Jackson made it two Buildbase BMWs in the top ten with Christian Iddon and the Bennetts Suzuki team moving up the order to finish the session tenth fastest.
