Champion Agostini celebrated with Snetterton ceremony

Sunday, June 21 2015

Grand Prix legend and 15-times World Champion Giacomo Agostini has formally inaugurated his corner at Snetterton this afternoon, attending an official ceremony with MotorSport Vision's Chief Executive Jonathan Palmer, during the MCE British Superbike Championship round.

The Italian Grand Prix legend had the corner named in his honour when the circuit was transformed in 2011 and this weekend marked his first visit to the track since the redevelopment. 'Ago' returned to the track for the official ceremony onboard an MV Agusta, the Italian manufacturer that he celebrated 14 World titles, ten TT victories and more than 250 race wins with during his illustrious career. The naming ceremony also featured a fly-past from the Apache attack helicopter.

'Ago' has previously celebrated success at the Norfolk circuit on both two and four wheels, including a victory during the 1972 Snetterton 'Race of Aces' and his first four-wheel podium in the 1979 Aurora AFX British Formula 1 Championship.

Jonathan Palmer, Chief Executive, MotorSport Vision said: "I designed our new Snetterton 300 circuit to be fantastic for bikes as well as cars and as Giacomo has raced here on both two wheels and four I was absolutely delighted when he agreed to my suggestion of naming a important corner after him. Agostini corner provides a great deal of action as a key overtaking point at Snetterton and fans on Agostini bank can see it all!

"It is wonderful that Ago has now been able to visit and enable us to officially commemorate his corner and I'm thrilled that we have some super photos to record this special day. Most importantly I am delighted Giacomo really loves the radically revised Snetterton and was particularly praising of the high safety standards we have achieved."
