Huge GT entry to take on the Brands GP circuit this weekend

Tuesday, July 28 2015

The entry list for this weekend's (1/2 August) Avon Tyres British GT Championship race has been released, with 30 supercars set to compete on the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit in the two-hour encounter.

The list is headed by title contenders including championship leader Ecurie Ecosse (BMW Z4), with drivers Alexander Sims, a former McLaren Autosport BRDC Award winner and Marco Attard, the reigning British GT Champion. The pair lead two Aston Martin squads: former champions Beechdean with Jonny Adam and Andrew Howard; and the Oman Racing Team, run by local outfit Motorbase. Drivers Liam Griffin, a former British Touring Car Championship competitor, and Rory Butcher are equal second in the points with Beechdean, both 14.5 points shy of the leaders.

Whilst these three teams will be fighting for the title in the championship's penultimate round, there are many more contenders for victory in a series that is renowned for the openness of its field. These include the second Oman Racing entry with Ahmad Al Harthy and Daniel Lloyd, plus the sister Barwell-run BMW of Jon Minshaw and Phil Keen, who were denied victory here by a puncture last year.

There are two more BMW Z4s entered by the Triple Eight squad, and their drivers will be fighting a McLaren 650S run by VonRyanRacing, a team run by former McLaren F1 Team Manager Dave Ryan. Other marques in the field include two Ferrari 458 Italias, a Mercedes AMG SLS and a brace of Ginetta G55s.

Also on the grid will be a healthy contingent of GT4 cars, racing for their own championship, which is headed by Beechdean's junior Aston Martin squad of Jamie Chadwick and Ross Gun. They are 21 points clear of ISSY Racing, who are running a Lotus Evora with Oz Yusuf and Lotus Sport's Gavan Kershaw. The latter pairing took a win last time out at Spa-Francorchamps and are hoping that momentum is on their side.

The GT4 class include several Ginetta G55s, with additional Aston Martin and Lotus entries to make it a three-way fight amongst the British sportscar marques. There is also a Porsche 911 and Toyota GT86 adding further variety to the field.
