BTCC's Aron Smith ready to win again at Snetterton

Thursday, July 30 2015

Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship race winner Aron Smith is ready to start the second half of the 2015 season with a win at Snetterton next weekend (8/9 August), the scene of his last series victory one year ago.

Aron took a pole position at Thruxton, but so far this has been one of few highlights in a year that started promisingly with two podiums at Brands Hatch, after he had out-qualified champion team-mates Jason Plato and Colin Turkington. He currently lies 11th in the standings, compared to Plato and Turkington's second and fifth places respectively.

Aron said: "I think we've had the pace, just a bit of bad luck every now and then that has curtailed our performance, but with 30 races there are going to be bad weekends for us. Now we're in a position where we can start the second half of the year at a track where we won last year and as we know the car is quick here, we can just start from afresh and see what we can achieve for the next five weekends. Snetterton is the best place to start it."

The Irishman's season is in sharp contrast to last year, where he was often the BMR team's top scorer. He would rather be struggling to accumulate points with a quicker car, however. "Yes, I think so. We know that once we get all the little gremlins ironed out we're going to be as quick as anything out there, which is always nice.

Returning to the scene of a past win is also a valuable boost for Aron: "Snetterton's always been a kind track to me and I've always liked here, so I'm happy coming back knowing that we won last year. I know that we're capable of doing it, so I'm full of optimism as this is one of my strongest tracks."

The next round of the 2015 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship is at Snetterton on 8/9 August. Tickets are available from £26, with free entry for under-13s. For more information call 0843 453 9000 or click here.
