Snetterton heroes Scott Brown and Lister to be celebrated

Saturday, January 10 2015

The life of sports car constructor Brian Lister, who passed away before Christmas, and his star driver, Archie Scott Brown will be celebrated at Snetterton on 13/14 June at the Historic Sports Car Club's Autosport Three-Hour meeting.

An Archie Scott Brown Trophy race for historic sports cars had been planned for this summer's event at the Norfolk circuit where the Scottish driver first rose to prominence in the 1950s. The concept has now been widened to celebrate the Lister marque, which was based in Cambridge under Brian's stewardship.

A 30-minute invitation race for pre-1959 sports cars will be held in honour of Scott Brown, who overcame disability from birth to win many races at international level in the 1950s. He also competed at Formula One level before his untimely death in a sports car race at Spa-Francorchamps in 1958. The tribute race will place an emphasis on the special car builders active during Scott Brown's life, including Allard, Tojeiro and HWM as well as Lister.

The event will also feature a gathering of Listers, a re-union of Lister drivers and engineers, and a parade of the cars built in nearby Cambridge. Brian stopped building sports cars shortly after the death of his close friend, but the marque continued under different owners and it is hoped to bring the Lister story right up to date with examples of the latest cars from the Lister Motor Company Ltd.

HSCC CEO, Grahame White said: "It seems remarkably appropriate to recall the lives of both Archie Scott Brown and Brian Lister at Snetterton in June. We hope to have a fine grid of 1950s sports cars on track as well as more examples of the Lister marque on display. I'm particularly grateful to John Turner for putting forward the idea and then working to make it a reality. I think this will add a wonderful new dimension to the Autosport Three-Hour weekend."

Tickets for the HSCC Autosport Three-Hour meeting will be available shortly. Season Passes for Snetterton and other MSV circuits are currently available to purchase by clicking here.
