Double R completes 2016 line-up with Finn Aleksanteri Huovinen

Tuesday, December 15 2015

Finnish driver Aleksanteri Huovinen has been confirmed as Double R Racing's third driver for the 2016 BRDC Formula 4 Championship today (December 15), joining the Brazilian pairing of Matheus Leist and Enzo Bortoleto to complete the Woking squad's line-up.

Huovinen contested the 2015 SMP Formula 4 Championship, which races in Russia, Finland and Estonia, taking three wins on his way to finishing fourth overall. The 19-year-old, who hails from Oulu in northern Finland, claimed two other podium finishes and two fastest laps as he mounted a spirited title fight throughout the year.

Prior to racing in SMP F4, the teenager took part in the Formula Ford Finland series in 2014, finishing as runner-up with five wins and nine top-three finishes. The Finn began racing in karts as a 13-year-old and spent five seasons in the category, with highlights including appearances in the Belgian Rotax Max Challenge, before stepping up to single-seaters.

Huovinen said: "It's fantastic we've signed with Double R and I can't wait for next season to start. Working with the team so far has been really good, the guys are so professional and really know what to do with the car - they've helped me with my driving too and I've definitely found a lot of time already.

"The car is really good, very fast and the downforce is much more than I've been used to. I think we have a great chance to be competitive next year, I know I can be quick and that the guys at Double R will give me a great car."

Anthony 'Boyo' Hieatt, Team Principal of Double R Racing, added: "We're all delighted to see Aleksanteri join the team for BRDC F4 next year, alongside Matheus and Enzo we're confident we'll have one of the strongest driver line-ups out there. We've got a long and successful history of working with Finnish and Scandinavian drivers, and big links to Finland through Kimi (Räikkönen) of course, and I'm confident Aleksanteri is going to be another success.

"He's impressed us from what we've seen in testing so far and I really do think he'll be right at the front from the word go when the championship starts in March. He had some good results in the SMP F4 Championship this year and has adapted to the greater power and downforce of the BRDC car very quickly. Everything looks very positive for Double R in 2016."

The 2016 BRDC Formula 4 Championship consists of 24 races across eight meetings, with the season getting underway at Snetterton on March 27/28.
