Brazilian Bortoleto to return to BRDC F4 in 2016 with Double R Racing

Wednesday, December 09 2015

Enzo Bortoleto will rejoin the BRDC Formula 4 Championship in 2016 with Double R Racing, becoming the Woking-based team's second confirmed driver for next year, it has been announced today (December 9). The Brazilian competed in the 2014 BRDC F4 Winter Series for Petroball, finishing eighth overall with a best result of fourth.

The São Paulo youngster will partner fellow Brazilian Matheus Leist at Double R and is now the fourth driver to be confirmed on the 2016 BRDC F4 grid. Prior to racing in the Winter Series last year, Bortoleto competed in the first four races of the South American Formula 4 Championship, securing a pole position and three podium finishes.

He started karting at the age of six, although his first full season came in 2012, when he finished third in the junior category of the Brazilian Kart Championship. In 2013, Bortoleto was among the best 12 racers in the Florida Winter Tour in Rotax Junior and also placed 10th in the Brazilian Championship in the Graduate class. He competed in the KZ category of the European Karting Championship in 2014 and this year he has raced in Brazil's Sprint Race category, where he is in title contention heading into the final round which takes place in Sao Paulo on December 19.

Bortoleto said: "It is great to be back in the BRDC Formula 4 Championship, especially with the new car. I'm also pleased to be at Double R Racing, they are a strong team with a lot of knowledge so it should be a good season. It will, as always, be a highly competitive championship and we are looking to challenge for podiums, wins and hopefully the championship."

Anthony 'Boyo' Hieatt, Team Principal of Double R Racing, added: "We're really looking forward to having Enzo in the team, he obviously proved his ability and pace in the Winter Series last year and we're confident he can be a contender in 2016. Of course, the new car is going to be a fresh challenge but I'm sure Enzo is going to be quick straight out of the box.

"It's fantastic news for the team to have two quality drivers confirmed so soon and we're hopeful of completing the line-up very soon with our third driver. We're intending to hit the ground running next year, everyone at Double R is really looking forward to being part of the championship."

The first round of the 2016 BRDC Formula 4 Championship takes place at Snetterton on March 27/28 with next year's series consisting of 24 races, including a trio of contests at the legendary Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium which mark BRDC F4's maiden race meeting outside of the UK.
