Ellison leads opening test session by 0.001s at Oulton Park

Friday, April 24 2015

James Ellison topped the opening MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship test session of the day at Oulton Park this morning (Friday) as the Brands Hatch double race winner edged out Josh Brookes by 0.001s.

Ellison had been setting the benchmark in the session on the JG Speedfit Kawasaki, but Brookes was closing in on the Milwaukee Yamaha and the pair were separated by the narrowest of margins after the opening hour on track.

Ellison said: "The first session wasn't bad for us and looking at the split times on our last run were equal to what I did in the race last year so we have come here and hit the ground running. We need to do a bit of work with the rear shock in the next session as we have a bit of movement as Brands Hatch and Oulton Park are different, but I am fairly happy with how it is going so far."

The PBM Kawasaki's were locking out the next two positions with Stuart Easton narrowly ahead of defending champion Shane 'Shakey' Byrne as he edged out Ryuichi Kiyonari in fifth for the Buildbase BMW team.

Tyco BMW had a positive start to the test with Tommy Bridewell climbing to sixth ahead of Honda Racing's Jason O'Halloran in seventh as he moved ahead of Billy McConnell on the Smiths Racing BMW. Martin Jessopp and Peter Hickman completed the top ten.
