F4 top-five covered by just 0.130s at Donington

Tuesday, September 23 2014

The top-five drivers on the grid for the final race of the Donington Park weekend were covered by just 0.130 seconds, easily the closest grid of any junior single seater series in the UK this year.

The starting order for the final race of each F4 weekend is determined by fastest race laps from the first two races, with George Russell's fastest lap putting him on pole, but by only 0.047s from team mate Arjun Maini, with just 0.083s covering the next four drivers.

The level of competition in BRDC F4 was further showcased in qualifying for race one, where the top-four drivers were covered by less than two tenths of a second, while the top-10 were separated by just 0.716s around the 2.48 mile circuit, the closest margin seen all season.

In the past six rounds, the top-10 drivers in qualifying on average have been covered by just eight tenths of a second. This strength in depth has resulted in nine different race winners from the 21 races held so far this season, while 12 different drivers have stood on the podium, with Jordan Albert the latest driver to make his first trip to the rostrum with an excellent drive at Donington Park.
