Truck racing and fireworks to wow Brands Hatch crowd

Tuesday, October 21 2014

Brands Hatch is set for a day of family fun this November (Sunday 2), when the British Truck Racing Championship finale is accompanied by a huge fireworks display, plus children's entertainers, monster truck rides, fairground fun and much more. Admission to the event is free for children aged 12 and under.

Truck racing is a firm favourite with race-goers of all ages. The 1000 horsepower giants of motorsport race wheel-to-wheel at speeds of up to 100mph, and the drivers are not shy of making contact!

There are two titles up for grabs in the British Truck Racing Championship. Reigning Division 1 champion Mat Summerfield is aiming for a title hat-trick this weekend and has a 24-point advantage over rival Chris Levett, with 50 points on offer in the finale. In Division 2, Simon Reid is 28 points clear of Ryan Smith but anything can happen in the fast and furious world of truck racing.

TrucksFireworksThe championship employs a reverse-grid system, which will ensure that Reid and Smith's division will be starting half a lap ahead of the faster Division 1 machines in each of the weekend's five races, three of which take place on the Sunday. The highest-placed trucks from the previous race will start from the back of their group, meaning that all of the title contenders will need to overtake as many rivals as possible in order to challenge for the championships.

The event also includes a packed programme of high-speed action from the NASCAR-style Pickup Truck Racing Championship, pocket-rocket Legends cars that resemble 1930s American hot-rods, and the fast-paced Quaife Intermarque League and Quaife Motorsport News Saloons.

Fans of all ages will also find plenty to do off-track, with a wealth of family-themed activities planned for the Sunday. A free-of-charge Kidspace Marquee will feature children entertainers, Punch and Judy shows, bubble performances and a Balloon Modeller, plus a variety of activities including colouring, soft play and face painting.

There will also be a traditional fairground and a free adventure playground.

A thrilling time is guaranteed with the Red Dragon monster truck, which has been converted to carry up to 10 passengers. This powerful V8-engined machine will be providing rides throughout the day and jumping over obstacles on a special course. The venue's go-karting circuit will also be open for those inspired to take the wheel.

Fans can also see the artistic skills of Xtreme Chainsaw's Simon, who will demonstrate his chainsaw wood-carving mastery to create a series of wood sculptures.

The circuit will also be surrounded by a show truck display, and the trucks will take to the track on Sunday afternoon for a colourful parade, followed by a spectacular fireworks display to light up the night sky and provide a memorable conclusion to a thrilling day.

Tickets for Truck racing and fireworks at Brands Hatch on Sunday 2 November are available for £18 in advance, with free entry for children aged 12 and under. For more information call 0843 453 9000 or click here.
