Bumper entry to contest truck races at Brands this weekend

Wednesday, October 29 2014

A bumper entry of 23 trucks will contest this weekend's (1/2 November) title-deciding rounds of the British Truck Racing Championship at Brands Hatch, which will also feature a huge fireworks display on Sunday.

The trucks will take to the track for five races, including three on Sunday. The 1000 horsepower machines race at up to 100 mph, and a reverse-grid system guarantees lots of overtaking. Two classes will contest the races, with the slower Division 2 trucks getting a head-start over Division 1.

Eight drivers will contest Division 1, where a fierce title battle will be fought by reigning double champion Mat Summerfield and Chris Levett. The pair are separated by 24 points, with 50 points on offer.

Summerfield said: "Brands Hatch is one of my favourite circuits, there's always a good crowd. We've already had three wins there in April, so I'm hoping to get out in front again!"

Levett said: "I've got nothing to lose really; I've had all the bad luck through the year. We've won at every track this year and if it wasn't for a few bad results we'd be about 25 points in front so we've got to be happy with that."

There's also a title fight in Division 2, where Simon Reid heads Ryan Smith by 28 points. Reid said: "I do like Brands Hatch, I must admit. We sort of get rocking and rolling round there a bit so it's good. I won four of the five races here [earlier in the year]. I think [Ryan] isn't one to give up, that's for sure, but neither am I!"

Smith said: "I was winning the championship at Pembrey, and on the first race on the Sunday, I was 25 seconds in the lead and the diff exploded so I missed three races. I'm going to go to Brands Hatch and I'm going to go for five race wins - I'm going to go for it!

"It's my first season and Brands Hatch [in April] was an eye opener, but I know a lot more now and I'm very confident that I'll be lapping similar times to the Class A lads. Brands Hatch is the pinnacle for us, it's our favourite track, and we're going to go all out for the best show we can give them!"

The trucks will race five times this weekend, with the final three rounds on Sunday - click here to download the entry list. They'll be supported by action from Pickup Trucks, Legends, Quaife Intermarque League, Cannon's Motor Spares Tin Tops, and the Quaife Motorsport News Saloon Car Championship. There will also be off-track entertainment for all the family, plus a display and parade from over 150 show trucks and a huge fireworks display after the racing on Sunday.

Tickets for truck racing and fireworks at Brands Hatch on 1/2 November are available on the gate for £14 on Saturday and £22 on Sunday, with free entry for children aged 12 and under. For more information call 0843 453 9000 or click here.
