BTCC’s Adam Morgan: “Oulton’s a brilliant track”

Friday, May 23 2014

Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship racer Adam Morgan is looking to repeat his 2013 podium finish at his local circuit when the series visits Oulton Park next month (7/8 June).

The Blackburn driver impressed with the family-run Toyota Avensis last season, but has switched to a Mercedes A-Class, picking up sponsorship from Wix along the way. Despite having to develop new machinery, he has been close to the ultimate pace in the opening rounds.

"We set out a target of aiming for top ten results at the start of the year," Adam said. "With a brand new car that's quite an optimistic goal, so to have three top tens at Thruxton and points finishes is great for the team."

The Mercedes is only at the start of its development curve but is being developed through the season. "Every time we've gone out we've collected more data and found new ways to approach the car," Adam continued. "It's getting better all the time, and we are planning on doing a test before Oulton, Hopefully we'll make a step forward with the car."

If that step is made, then it will be a popular result, not least for Adam: "If I could get another podium at Oulton I'll be absolutely amazed, it would be incredible. This year is one of the closest, there's so many cars now and brilliant drivers, it's that competitive.

"Oulton's a brilliant track, it's quite a unique track in the way that the car is always moving about, thee are so many corners with camber, so it's a really good track. I think everyone likes their home circuit, it's always where I have a lot of supporters, and it's a brilliant track to go to."

Another incentive for Adam is the chance to see the Super Touring Trophy cars from the BTCC's past: " I'm really looking forward to seeing these cars," he enthused. "I've seen a couple in the pit garages and they're unbelievable bits of kit, so I'm really looking forward to seeing them out on track."
