Ecurie Ecosse sets the early GT pace at Snetterton

Saturday, June 21 2014

The Avon Tyres British GT Championship-leading Ecurie Ecosse BMW Z4 was fastest in the opening session at Snetterton today (Saturday), with replacement driver Jonny Cocker at the wheel.

The early pace was set by Joe Osborne in the Triple 8 BMW Z4 from Matt Bell in the United Autosports Audi, before the R8 lapped the 3-mile circuit quicker to lead the session just the am drivers were venturing out. After vacating the car, Bell commented that track conditions were dusty and predicted plenty more to come.

Tom Onslow-Cole hauled the Strata 21 Aston Martin up to fourth place halfway through the session, just behind the Audi, BMW and MP Motorsport Vantage. However, with am drivers still dominating the track in numbers, the sharp end of the leaderboard remained fairly static.

With just over five minutes to go, Cocker, who has replaced Alexander Sims in the Ecurie Ecosse team for this weekend, signalled his intent with the fastest time. Three tenths quicker than Bell had been, the British GT returnee held the top spot to the chequered flag. With no further improvements forthcoming, he ended the session at the head of the field.

Behind him there were a few late improvements at the front, with the AF Corse Ferrari and Trackspeed Porsche of Phil Keen demoting Strata 21. A trio of Aston Martins completed the top ten, in the order of Oman Racing Team, Beechdean and PGF-Kinfaun.

The GT4 class was initially led by Gavan Kershaw in the Issy Racing Lotus at his home circuit, before Dan Cammish moved the Team Parker Porsche to the top of the order.

The second practice session will commence at 12:35pm. Click here to download a full result.
