Shakey set for Cycle Challenge for CJ Riders Fund

Sunday, June 29 2014

Triple MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship title-winner Shane 'Shakey' Byrne is embarking on one of the biggest challenges of his career next Tuesday (1 July) when he bids to cycle 228 miles in a single day to raise money for the CJ Riders Fund.

Byrne will set off at his home circuit of Brands Hatch in Kent at 5am before cycling across Kent and into Essex as the Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki rider heads to Snetterton in Norfolk, where he will complete a lap of the 300 circuit. The final leg of the epic journey will be towards Northamptonshire as the tour heads to Silverstone to conclude the gruelling day which is expected to last between 12-13 hours.

Byrne said: "I am never one to shy away from a challenge and it would be very easy for me to simply raise money by donating some memorabilia, but there are a lot of dedicated people in the Championship medical team and I wanted to do them justice. It is an ambitious ride, especially as we are doing it all in one day, but I have been training hard and I intend to give it everything I have got."

Byrne then will turn his attentions to his home round of MCE BSB at Brands Hatch on 18/19/20 July.
