Mat Jackson: “expect fireworks at Snetterton”

Thursday, July 24 2014

Airwaves Racing's Mat Jackson is aiming for a return to winning ways in the second half of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season, which resumes at Snetterton next weekend (2/3 August).

A barren 2013 season saw team boss Dave Bartrum recruit double champion Fabrizio Giovanardi as a fix to the squad's troubles. However, it is the team's last-minute signing, Jackson, who has been leading their charge, and is currently in sixth place in the title standings.

Jackson summarised: "We have had some great results so far this season and are just about hanging in the title race at the mid-point. However I am under no illusion that if the guys who have been banging in the points at the front continue to do so, we need to raise our game to stay in contention."

Last year Airwaves Racing did just that at Snetterton, taking four podium finishes over the weekend. Mat doesn't need reminding that a similar improvement would yield better results: "We very much need to step up in form, but we are looking for a lot less time than at this point 12 months ago. I have a huge hole in the trophy cabinet and that needs filling and filling fast!

"We definitely are targeting wins as we have for the past two years. I feel that these are edging closer, so let's just hope that we can round off the season with wins to our name."

After an incident-filled weekend at Croft, Mat has been busy "working hard in the family business selling Ford cars," and he expects even more action in Norfolk: "Snetterton always produces some great racing and I don't expect this weekend to be any different. It is such a hard-fought championship and there are so many cars capable of winning, so expect fireworks!"

Tickets for the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Snetterton are available from £26, with free entry for children aged 12 and under. For more information call 0843 453 9000 or click here.
