Giovanardi excited about Snetterton 300 debut

Sunday, July 27 2014

Double Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Champion Fabrizio Giovanardi believes that his luck will turn during the second half of the 2014 season, and is looking forward to racing at Snetterton next weekend (2/3 August).

The Italian has taken time to adjust to the current BTCC regulations, although he has already made a return to the podium in the Airwaves Racing Ford Focus. "Honestly the season has been quite hard for me," he admitted. "But from my experience when you return with brand new rules you have to pay a price in terms of results, it was the same in the 2006 season with Vauxhall."

Fabrizio admitted as much when he first tested the Focus, feeling that it would take him time to get it working to his liking. He feels that he is getting closer, however: "For sure we will do it, but in some races my team mate and I have done it already in the first half. I believe we are closer than we have shown until now, but some unlucky situations have hidden this!"

The 47-year-old was certainly in the wars at Croft, where he lost out in a lead battle with Andrew Jordan in the third race, and got involved in a scrap that resulted in a penalty for Snetterton. However this doesn't faze him: "I will start from the back for a penalisation, but I will try to make my best result, maybe because I have nothing to lose, it will be a big help for me."

Fabrizio thinks he'll have a good chance at Snetterton too, despite having never raced on the new layout before: "The 300 circuit looks more interesting compared to the previous one, now we have a lot of different corners and places to overtake than before."

He's also had plenty of time to prepare for the event, and unlike his rivals has yet to take a holiday:  "We normally spend the summer break in August, but as you know we have two races to do," he quipped.

Tickets for the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Snetterton are available from £26, with free entry for children aged 12 and under. For more information call 0843 453 9000 or click here.
