Aston Martin Racing's MD continues participation in British GT

Wednesday, January 22 2014

Aston Martin Racing's Managing Director John Gaw has confirmed that he will be competing in the Avon Tyres British GT Championship this year, continuing a driving partnership with Phil Dryburgh in the PGF Kinfaun-AMR team. The series kicks off at Oulton Park on 19/21 April.

Gaw and Dryburgh will be at the wheel of their Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3, one of many on the grid as the British manufacturer, which powered reigning champion team Beechdean, increases its involvement in the series. This includes the Aston Martin GT4 Challenge, which supports British GT at many of its rounds, including the Oulton Park opener.

"It's great to do another year of British GT," said Gaw. "Phil and I want to improve and that's what we'll aim to do, we're even going to do some pre-season testing this year. This season holds a lot of interest for me, we've also got the Aston Martin GT4 Challenge supporting British GT at certain rounds and that is really exciting and strategically very important. It shows a clear ladder for drivers looking to pursue a career in GT; they can take the Vantage into British GT's GT4 class and they can also aim for GT3. It'll be a real family affair on those weekends with around 20 Astons on track over the weekend."

"I loved every minute in the car last year," added Dryburgh. "Fantastic cars, fantastic tracks, a fantastic grid. I think realistically we need to be aiming to be in the top eight each weekend; the days of keeping your nose clean and getting a podium are long gone. Nowadays it's more like: keep your nose clean and you might finish where you started! I've challenged John to go better in qualifying and he's tasked me to make less mistakes; I think that's fair!"

The Avon Tyres British GT Championship visits Oulton Park on 19/21 April, Snetterton on 21/22 June and Brands Hatch on 30/31 August. Tickets are available from £18, with free entry for children aged 12 and under. For more information call 0843 453 9000 or click the links.
