Get set for a classic BTCC season opener at Brands Hatch

Monday, February 24 2014

The countdown is on for the opening round of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch on 29/30 March. With seven champions on the biggest grid for several years, it's set to be a vintage season!

Andrew Jordan heads to Brands Hatch as the reigning champion, and will be facing opposition from the works Hondas of Matt Neal and Gordon Shedden, who have switched to the Civic Tourer, the first BTCC estate car since the famous Volvo 850s of 1994. Rivals Jason Plato and Colin Turkington will also be back, in improved MG6 and eBay Motors BMW 1-Series cars respectively. Both are firm favourites for the 2014 crown.

Joining the five are returning double champions Fabrizio Giovanardi and Alain Menu. The Italian spearheads Airwaves Racing's title assault, whilst Menu will be a dark horse in the Team BMR VW Passat, formerly run by Team HARD. Both cars have huge potential and the drivers are expecting to be in the championship fight.

In addition, there are many more teams and drivers ready to steal the honours at Brands Hatch. Sam Tordoff and Rob Austin both scored debut victories in 2013 and are ready to add more this year. Adam Morgan is closing in on his maiden win and has moved up to a Mercedes A-Class this season, whilst Dave Newsham steps into an AmD-run Motorbase Focus.

Meanwhile there are several title-winning rookies in the field set to impress. 1999 Formula 3 champion Marc Hynes joins Tordoff and Plato on the MG squad, whilst former British GT titleholder Glyn Geddie makes his debut in a Toyota Avensis run by crack GT squad United Autosports. Reigning Ginetta GT Supercup champion Tom Ingram will also be racing an Avensis with Speedworks.

The drivers will compete in three races on the Sunday, and picking a winner is almost impossible! There will also be the opportunity to meet them during a free pitwalk and autograph session on raceday, which also features a packed timetable of support races, plus a funfair and free children's adventure playground.

Tickets for the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season opener at Brands Hatch on 29/30 March are available from £26, with free entry for children aged 12 and under. For more information call 0843 453 9000 or click here.
